Story von Hogwarts Legacy
Wir befinden uns im 19. Jahrhundert und erstellen uns einen eigenen Spieler. Dieser ist eine Ausnahme, da der Spieler erst im 5. Schuljahr in Hogwarts einsteigt. Doch damit nicht genug. Der Spieler kann nicht nur erstaunlich gut mit seinem Zauberstab umgehen, sondern hat auch eine ganz besondere Fähigkeit. Er kann Spuren alter Magie sehen und diese sogar für sich nutzbar machen. Dass er mit diesen Fähigkeiten nicht allein dasteht und dass er damit tief in die Geschichte von Hogwarts eintauchen wird, weiß der Spieler zu Beginn noch nicht. Da neben dem Haupterzählstrang noch viele weitere Nebenquests warten, kann es dauern, bis der Spieler das Ende der Geschichte erreicht. Dank verschiedener Enden kann es sich lohnen, das Spiel auch mehrfach durchzuspielen.
Die Storyline an sich ist nicht sonderlich komplex, weiß aber durchaus zu überzeugen. Man beginnt die verschiedenen Protagonisten ins Herz zu schließen oder auch Abneigungen zu entwickeln. Was man an der Story allerdings bemängeln muss ist deren geringe Abwechslung. Man kann sicherlich an einigen Kern-Stellen Entscheidungen treffen, welche das weitere Geschehen beeinflussen, doch der Einfluss auf die Geschichte selbst bleibt gleich. Vor allem aber die Reaktionen der NPCs auf das Verhalten des Spielers ändern sich nicht. Es spielt keine Rolle, ob wir bei einem Kampf vor einem unserer Lehrer einen der unverzeihlichen Flüche nutzen, oder nicht. Ein Moral-System hat das Spiel nicht zu bieten.
Gameplay
Zunächst einmal muss man sagen, dass Hogwarts Legacy durchaus vornehmlich für Konsolen entwickelt wurde und sich dementsprechend mit einem Controller am einfachsten und auch am besten spielen lässt. Vor allem die Flugpassagen sind mit Maus und Tastatur eher fummelig geraten. Allerdings gibt es bereits jetzt etliche Mods, welche genau diese Steuerung verbessern und optimieren. Doch wie spielt es sich als Zauberschüler im fünften Schuljahr? Wie rasant ist das Gameplay, wie fordernd sind die Rätsel und wie knackig sind die Kämpfe?
Die Geschwindigkeit des Gameplays kann der Spieler in vielen Teilen selbst bestimmen. Ob man lieber schleicht und versteckt unter einem Zauber die Gegner von hinten ausschaltet oder mit Pauken und Trompeten auf die Gegner losgeht, ist jedem Spieler selbst überlassen. Die unterschiedlichen Spielmodi beziehungsweise Schwierigkeitsgrade machen es auch unerfahrenen Spielern leicht, der Geschichte zu folgen. Wer möchte kann sich die Kämpfe allerdings auch angenehm knackig schwer gestalten.
Viele der Gegner haben besonderer Schwächen oder auch besondere Stärken, sodass man mit einem einfachen Set an Zaubern häufig nicht sehr weit kommt. Zum Glück kann sich der Spieler über Talente bis zu vier unterschiedliche Zauber-Sets freischalten, welche dann frei belegt werden können. So behält man auch in den härtesten Kämpfen stets den Überblick und kann sich mit den verschiedenen Gegnerklassen herumschlagen.
Die wenigen Rätsel im Spiel sind nicht unbedingt knackig, aber auch nicht allzu trivial. Häufig sind es kleinere Puzzle, welche mit Hilfe von Zaubern und logischem Denken gelöst werden können. Das Spiel ist dabei weder sonderlich unfair noch allzu hilfreich. An so mancher Stelle hilft dann nur noch blindes Versuchen, wenn die Lösung sich nicht sofort erschließt. Grundsätzlich sind die Rätsel aber der anvisierten Altersklasse angemessen und angenehm abwechslungsreich.
Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass das Gameplay und dessen Wahrnehmung sehr stark vom Schwierigkeitsgrad abhängig ist. Ist der Story-Modus noch was für absolute Anfänger, ist der harte Schwierigkeitsgrad in vielen Bereichen knackig herausfordernd, ohne dabei unfair zu werden.
Grafik
Hinsichtlich der Grafik gibt es einige Punkte zu beachten. Zum einen muss man leider auch nach den ersten Patches noch sagen, dass das Spiel Probleme mit der Performance hat, wenn man die grafischen Effekte zu weit aufdreht. Vor allem vor Cut-Scenes brechen die FPS-Zahlen regelmäßig ein und sinken in Bereiche, in denen ein deutliches Stottern und Verzögern sichtbar wird. Wer über eine potente Grafikkarte mit ausreichend Grafikspeicher verfügt, kann sich aber auch in Hogwarts Legacy auf wunderschöne Darstellungen freuen. Vor allem dank Raytracing wirkt die gesamte Spielwelt enorm lebendig. Auf dem eigenen Besen bei Sonnenuntergang über den großen See zu fliegen und das leuchtende Schloss zu umrunden, kann kaum schöner aussehen. Doch in den besten Einstellungen und mit Raytracing setzt dies eine wirklich moderne Grafikkarte mit ausreichend Grafikspeicher voraus. Doch wie sieht es mit leistungsschwächeren Systemen aus?
Die Entwickler haben es geschafft, dass das Spiel auch mit schlechteren Grafikeinstellungen nicht nur spielbar bleibt, sondern die Welt noch immer lebendig aussieht. Vor allem aber geben die Entwickler dem Spieler viele kleine Stellschrauben an die Hand, um das Erlebnis an die eigenen Vorlieben anzupassen. Viele dieser Stellschrauben fallen auf den ersten Blick kaum ins Gewicht, können sich aber erheblich auf die Geschwindigkeit des Spiels und dessen Aussehen auswirken. Wer die Sichtdistanz verringert und zudem auf hochauflösende Schatten verzichtet, kann einige FPS zugewinnen und zugleich eine immer noch faszinierend detailreiche Spielwelt genießen.
Neben der Umgebung spielen die Charaktere eine nicht unwichtige Rolle. Hier gelingt es dem Spiel leider nur zum Teil, den Figuren Leben einzuhauchen. Hier konnten einige andere Spiele der letzten Zeit deutlich besser punkten. Vor allem bei den Haaren wird deutlich, dass die Programmierer hier Abstriche machen mussten.
Sound
Die Entwickler haben versucht sich deutlich von der Film-Franchise abzugrenzen und dies auch bei der Musik sehr gut berücksichtigt. Das berühmte Harry Potter Hogwarts Theme kommt zwar immer mal wieder zum Vorschein, ist aber nie überpräsent oder zu aufdringlich. Das Thema Musik ist dennoch äußerst präsent und hilft enorm bei der Immersion des Spiels. Die gut abgestimmte Musik untermalt die verschiedenen Ereignisse und Cut-Scenes hervorragend und passt bestens zum Spiel selbst. So fühlen sich die verschiedenen epischen Momente durch den Sound nochmals gleich viel besser an.
Doch wie schaut es im Spiel selbst aus? Wie klingt die Welt von Hogwarts Legacy in Innenräumen, draußen und auf dem Besen? Hier muss man den Entwicklern wirklich gratulieren. Die gesamten Klänge sind realistisch und klingen knackig und direkt. Egal ob nun ein Zauber etwas in Flammen aufgehen lässt, der Wind am Ohr des Fliegenden vorbeirauscht oder Äste unter den Hufen von Tierwesen knacken, die Soundkulisse stimmt.
Auch bei der Sprachausgabe muss sich das Entwicklerstudio keine Schwächen vorwerfen lassen. Sowohl auf Deutsch als auch auf Englisch ist die Sprachausgabe von Quests und Cut-Scenes hervorragend gelungen. Die Charaktere klingen lebendig, die Dialoge wirken natürlich und es gibt nur wenige Stellen, an denen die Immersion ins Stocken gerät.
Fazit
Abseits der großen medialen Diskussionen rund um das Spiel muss man zusammenfassend sagen, dass das Entwicklerstudio Avalanche hier auf ganzer Ebene eine überzeugende Arbeit abgeliefert hat. Das Spiel hat eine durchaus interessante und unterhaltsame Story und eine angenehme Länge. Wer das Spiel zu 100 Prozent abschließen möchte, sollte rund 40 bis 50 Spielstunden einplanen. Da bereits jetzt angekündigt wurde, dass das Spiel eine Fortsetzung erhalten solle, muss man als Spieler zudem nicht mit vielen weiteren DLCs rechnen, sondern kann das Spiel als abgeschlossen ansehen. Einziges Manko sind die aktuell noch vorhandenen technischen Probleme hinsichtlich der Frame-Drops, doch man darf davon ausgehen, dass daran bereits jetzt gearbeitet wird. Insgesamt macht das Spiel viel Freude, lässt den Spieler in die Geschichte von Hogwarts eintauchen und bietet zudem einige kleine Eastereggs, welche Fans der Bücher und auch der Filme begeistern werden.
